The latest personal security alarms are easier to use and better at attracting help than ever before. The activation on most is with just a pull of a cord. This unleashes an ear piercing sound at over 130 decibels. The device itself can easily be strapped to a belt, your clothing, a purse, on your arm or even just carried like a walkman.

Results from a study on noise by the Centre for Human Performance and Health of Ontario Canada were as follows. Hearing loss begins at 90 dB to 95 dB. Pain begins in the ear with a noise at 125 dB. The OSHA permissible time of exposure for levels at 115 dB and above is 15 minutes a day. Permanent damage begins at 140 dB.

The way decibels are measured is that a noise increase from 5 to 10 decibels is twice as load, and from 5 to 20 is four times a load.

An average rock concert has a noise level of 115 dB while a gun blast is at 140 db. Death of hearing tissues occur at 180 dB and the loudest possible sound is at 190 dB.

The personal alarms can be carried in such a way that this will even stop purse snatchers. By having the strap of the alarm on your wrist and the alarm in your purse, if a person attempts to steal your purse, the alarm will automatically sound.

When looking at personal security alarms, price is not a deciding factor on whether you should purchase one since some are available for as little as $10.00.
